      <p id="MARLU130002">De pausis, quomodo debeant figurari in cantu plano.</p>
      <p id="MARLU130003">Sequitur videre de pausis, scilicet quo modo in cantu plano debeant figurari. Nam sunt aliqui, qui pro suo libito voluntatis, absque lege et distinctionum specierum ratione, ipsas in cantu figurant, non advertentes, quod sicut sunt diversi modi sive toni, sic sunt diversa principia, distinctiones, species, neumae, et finales. Nam modos per species iudicamus, et species per distinctiones cognoscere nos oportet. Signa enim, quae habent distinguere species inter se, sunt lineae protractae infra per spatia et lineas, quae pausae dicuntur: ubicumque enim pausa fit, innuitur nobis desistere a cantu. Et hae pausae debent distinguere species, et ipsas diversificare, secundum quod in diversis tonorum cantibus ordinantur. Neumae dicuntur illae, quae in unoquoque modorum diversae existunt: quae quidem ponuntur tam circa principium, quam circa medium, quam etiam circa finem. Verum quia semper terminantur in finali, ubi terminari debet cantus, in quo positae sunt, per ipsos quoque satis secundum auditum possunt toni cognosci. Nam secundum Isidorum neuma est coniunctio notularum in quolibet modorum, quae cantum format, distinguit, copulat et concludit. Sed quia species et neumae supradictae sunt ex diversis notarum nominibus constitutae, ideo videre necesse est de signis, per quae notarum figuratarum in cantibus nomina cognoscamus, quae quidem claves universaliter nuncupantur. Finit tractatus decimus tertius.</p>
